The Croatian Health Minister, Vili Beroš, was arrested and then dismissed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Beroš’s removal from his ministerial duties was announced by the government, with Dr. Irena Hrstić appointed as the acting State Secretary managing the Ministry of Health until a new minister is instated. Beroš and several other individuals are under investigation for allegedly overpaying for dual microscopes for neurosurgery. The arrests and implementation of urgent evidence gathering procedures are the outcome of an investigation previously conducted by USKOK, the Croatian State’s Attorney’s Office for the Suppression of Organized Crime and Corruption.
